Theatre Calgary's BOOM series comes to a close with BOOM YZ

Theatre Calgary's BOOM series comes to a close with BOOM YZ

Theatre Calgary is excited to start the kick off the season with a brand-new show from a dear friend. One of our country’s great writer/director/performers, Rick Miller has been electrifying audiences with his one-person shows in more than 200 cities around the world, and at nearly every major theatre in Canada.

Over the past seven years, Theatre Calgary has had the privilege to present the world premieres of Miller’s BOOM, BOOM X, and now, Theatre Calgary is thrilled to open the 2021-22 season with BOOM YZ.

While BOOM focused on the Baby-Boom generation, and the sequel concentrated on Generation X, this final instalment of the trilogy brings to life the people and music that have shaped our last quarter-century. In BOOM YZ, Miller plays more than a hundred characters from Generations Y and Z, including his own daughter, to reflect on the aspirations and anxieties of young people today.

While you do not need to have seen the previous productions, audiences who have seen the first two BOOM shows know that Miller takes on iconic figures in world politics, music, and pop culture. His impersonations are so refined that his performance will leave you wondering if you just heard and saw the actual person on stage.

"BOOM was the story of my parents generation, BOOM X was the story of my generation, and now BOOM YZ is the story of my kid's generation and the world they are inheriting from us,” says Rick Miller. “I want to help build bridges between generations, and not walls. Telling the stories of these generations is what I can do."

There is no better way to return to our theatre than with the visual wonder and spectacle of music, personal stories and multimedia that Miller ignites on stage. We are thrilled to welcome Rick back for another world premiere! Visit theatrecalgary.com to learn more!
