Few know of Selma Burke, the Black American sculptor who played a major role in the Harlem Renaissance movement of the 1920s and 30s. Among her works is a bas-relief plaque of President Franklin D. Roosevelt, which is now widely accepted to be the basis for the design on the American dime, and something for which she never received credit within her lifetime.
For more than 55 years, Theatre Calgary has produced numerous plays by William Shakespeare, and have staged even more musicals in that span. But something that hasn’t been done before? The words of Shakespeare and music of The Beatles at the same time! That all changes this March, as Theatre Calgary presents As You Like It, a musical conceived by Daryl Cloran and the Beard on the Beach Shakespeare Festival (Vancouver).

A tour-de-force solo show, Made in Italy is a comedic chronicle of the generational differences in an immigrant family set in 1970s Jasper, Alberta.
Theatre Calgary is thrilled to open its ‘Theatre For All’ season with the classic whodunit The Mousetrap, by the world’s greatest mystery writer, Agatha Christie.
On a dark and snowy night, seven strangers find themselves trapped in a remote English guesthouse. The next morning, the snowed-in guests are joined by a police sergeant who brings news of a grisly murder in London. To the guests’ horror, he reveals that the killer may very well be in their midst. The thrills and suspense begin as the sergeant delves into the histories of the guests to uncover sordid pasts, as audiences will race to put the pieces of the puzzle together before the final curtain.

Theatre Calgary’s long-standing Shakespeare by the Bow program is back again this year and once again hitting the road to bring a classic work by William Shakespeare to multiple parks, community associations in Calgary and surrounding areas, as well as Heritage Park.
