The Tale of Two Scrooges - A Christmas Carol returns with two casts this holiday season
Theatre Calgary is thrilled to welcome A Christmas Carol back to the Max Bell Theatre beginning November 30th, celebrating the 35th year of Calgary’s beloved holiday tradition.
For the 2021 production, Theatre Calgary will perform Geoffrey Simon Brown’s abridged adaptation of Dickens’ classic novel. Audiences will get a chance to see two different casts of three actors showcase their enormous talents and skills as they bring numerous characters in the story to life.
The two casts consist of many familiar faces to Theatre Calgary audiences. The ‘Holly’ cast features Haysam Kadri as Scrooge (and others), along with Jamie Tognazzini and Marshall Vielle. The ‘Ivy’ cast features Mike Tan as Scrooge (and others), Vanessa Leticia Jetté, and Karen Johnson-Diamond.
“This year’s production of A Christmas Carol is a brand new 'Carol' that has never been performed in front of a live audience before," says Theatre Calgary’s Artistic Director Stafford Arima. "This production boasts an intimate cast of Calgary actors, and a team of creative designers to bring a unique production to our stage. I am profoundly proud of this ensemble of artists who have come together to, once again, share this holiday classic of transformation, family, and forgiveness.”
“This is going to be very dynamic,” says Tan of what audiences can expect watching the actors perform multiple roles. “As actors, it’s a real workout as we all move in and out of our many characters. This is a wonderful way to get back into the theatre and performing in front of an audience.”
Theatre Calgary’s A Christmas Carol runs Nov. 30 - Dec. 24. For tickets and to find out which dates each cast is performing, visit theatrecalgary.com. If you’d rather not venture out this December, Theatre Calgary is also making the 2020 online filmed production available this year from Dec. 2 - 31, 2021.
