Shakespeare and The Beatles in a Musical Theatre Mash-up

For more than 55 years, Theatre Calgary has produced numerous plays by William Shakespeare, and have staged even more musicals in that span. But something that hasn’t been done before? The words of Shakespeare and music of The Beatles at the same time! That all changes this March, as Theatre Calgary presents As You Like It, a musical conceived by Daryl Cloran and the Beard on the Beach Shakespeare Festival (Vancouver).

Shakespeare on the Bow Takes Theatre to the Great Outdoors

Theatre Calgary’s long-standing Shakespeare by the Bow program is back again this year and once again hitting the road to bring a classic work by William Shakespeare to multiple parks, community associations in Calgary and surrounding areas, as well as Heritage Park.

Alberta Theatre Projects takes on Teenage Dick

Playwright Mike Lew has taken two of the most dramatic things known to humankind – Shakespeare and high school – and put them together in the hilarious and sharp-witted dark comedy that will close out Alberta Theatre Projects’ 2022-23 Season. The smash hit play was originally programmed for the company’s 2020-21 Season but had to be put on hold due to the pandemic. The long-awaited production will finally be hitting the Martha Cohen Theatre stage this April.

ACQ - Haysam Kadri

Artistic producer of The Shakespeare Company, Haysam Kadri was recently was appointed as Alberta Theatre Projects' interim artistic director. A well-respected Canadian artist, Haysam has been a creative force both on stage and behind-the-scenes, winning numerous awards and accolades for his stage direction, fight direction, and acting. In addition, he’s also an accomplished teacher and has mentored many young artists in our community.

Shakespeare on the Bow Goes Online

Shakespeare on the Bow has a long tradition (32 years and counting) of taking the bard outdoors each summer in Calgary, sharing accessible theatre to anyone ready to roll out a picnic blanket and enjoy. This year,, Theatre Calgary Artistic Director Stafford Arima wants to be sure that the tradition continues – online.
