The Calgary Civic Symphony has entertained Calgarians for almost 50 years and every year we present a Holidays concert of orchestral music with seasonal favourites. We continue the tradition this year on Sunday December 10 at 2:30 PM with Holidays with the Heebee-Jeebees.
Ever since the first staging of the now widely acclaimed New Blood Dance Show, Strathmore High School teacher Deanne Bertsch has dreamed of having the music—12 Peter Gabriel songs—performed by a live orchestra. Last spring, a chance conversation with the Calgary Civic Symphony’s executive director led to the possibility of that dream coming true.
You may or may not have heard of Calgary Civic Symphony. They have been part of Calgary’s cultural scene for over 40 years, and delight in the humble, beautiful concerts that they present. Fuelled by a passion for music and the strength of their volunteers (who contribute over 21 000 hours a year), they operate on a skeleton staff including only three part-time employees. With this, they bring five full-scale orchestral performances to the Jack Singer Concert Hall stage each season.
