Out of this World!

During a Culture Days workshop this past September, students had the opportunity to work with visual artist, Paula Timm at Arts Commons to create a planet.

Students were led through a variety of prompts to get them thinking about space, stars, and planets. Each student picked a rice paper lantern and then used a variety of tools such as paint brushes, sponges, and watercolour paints to create their lantern.

Through this process, students explored layering, mixing colours and different watercolour techniques. When the planets were done, they were hung to dry. Students then explored composing a collaborative soundscape of their universe.

One planet is beautiful, but together we have created a universe that is out of this world!
