How Arts Commons is making our building safe for you!
We’re excited to share that September 8, 2021 will mark Art Commons’ official reopening to the public a year and a half after it closed its doors on March 22, 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Art has been crucial in getting us through the pandemic and lifting our spirits during these difficult times. Recognizing the importance of the arts and governmental mandates around reopening, Arts Commons is set to safely welcome back audiences to our facilities this month.
"The safety and wellbeing of everyone who's in the building — staff, clients, patrons — is always our number one priority, and that's not just words on a wall for us,“ says Leslie Biles, Vice President, Operations. “We want everyone to go home safely at the end of every night — it's the most important consideration.”
All Arts Commons building air is circulated through Merv 14A hospital-grade air filters. Our venues have semi-automated HVAC systems which typically respond to CO2 levels and replenish the venues with a mixture of fresh and recirculated air. The air volume in the facility is completely turned over three times every hour. Additionally, Arts Commons has installed an ultraviolet germicidal irradiation (UVGI) system which fully disinfects all recirculated air.
All these safety measures and upgrades mean that the air in Arts Commons is exceptionally clean, and actually exits the building cleaner than it came in!
The Arts Commons building along with the +15 walkways that run through our venue will reopen to the public. Passers-by are welcome to view any of our eight +15 Galleries along with many other exhibitions on display throughout our building in our Lightbox Studio, Ledge and Window Galleries.
We’re also excited to welcome audiences back to the Jack Singer Concert Hall with the Calgary Philharmonic’s A Thank You Frontline Workers concert on September 10.
“Without an audience, we can't do what we do,” says Leslie Biles, Vice President, Operations. “we’re so thrilled to get people back in the building.”
